Bali Customs Question

topic posted Wed, April 9, 2008 - 4:00 PM by  Scarlett
Hey there so I need some help with a question. I'm having some clothes made in Bali but I'm not sure how much customs charges. And I'm having a hard time finding this kind of information online.

I was just charged $9.00 customs charge for a small box of just some fabric swatches. This seems exorbitantly high to me but then, I don't know what it is normally.

Do any of you either have clothes manufactured there or know anyone who does who I could ask? Any help on this would be very very much appreciated. Thank you.

Well.. my first thougt.. and I dont' mean it at all snarky.. but it really should have been something determined before you made your agreement with your manufacturer.. otherwise.. how are you going to determine the price of your goods to vendors/end users... sorry.. I just had to get that out of my system.

See if there is any useful info on this site www.export.gov/logistics/...iff_tax.asp
and try googling "import fees: "tarifs" there's lots listed.. but I'm not sure what you already might have looked at. Also look in your local yellow pages under "Import/Export" there are companies that deal with this all the time that can probably help you.. good luck.. I hope it's not as bad as it was for your fabric samples!

I think part of the custom charges can be gotten around by having a value of the product being shipped lower than $100... I can't guarentee this, but I know I've had a ton of stuff shipped to me from Japan (kimonos, fabric and stuff) and I've never see a big customs charge... but I want to think I've always seen the value of the shipment at like $100 or less...

Sorry if that was no help :)
