Costuming sessions

Okay, now that I am back from Burningman (which basically sucked all of my time into a giant, sparkly vortex... *cough* anyway), I've been putting together a list (or two) of some things I would like to start brainstorming / creating...

So...

What I would love to go is have a get together to sew, design, etc. certain projects, but I have so many I would like to do, I want to know what you guys would like to get together to create! I've got things like fur coats, skirts, bodices, thrift store re-vamps, halloween costumes, boot covers and fire proof performance clothing as just a *few* of the projects I want to work on in the next months on my list... How about you?

What would you like to get together with other sew-y crafty types to create, get feedback (and possibly pinning and measuring help) with?

Once we have a few ideas, I'll start setting up a time and date for our 1st get together! Yay! I can't wait to meet some new people who share my interest in sewing and costuming. :)

(creative talent and or sewing skills not required. I'm mediocre, I just like it which is why I started this tribe ;)

Sorry for the novel... now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

  • Did this ever happen? I'd love it for ~this~ post-burn season!
    • Hee hee... that's so funny... No it never really happened (well, it happened on a small scale with people I already knew)... I would love to start this up as well... the location is a bit of a problem, I'm not sure where we could do this... of course, I'm trying to buy a house right now (with wood floors, great for cleaning up messy fabrics), so once we've got our house, we can hold sessions there... anyone else still interested / have a possible location to get together?

      • The other way we could think about this is to do a "munch" as people in the BDSM or other communities do: get together to meet and talk about what we like to do (in common), but don't actually do it together. This could be fun, eh?

I have an apartment with room for two cutting boards on the floor and a table that could theoretically host 2 sewing machines. Or we could put the leaves in the table and host 3-4 machines, no cutting.
      • This would be really helpful if anyone is interested before the holidays. I've got three or four projects before December that require pretty simple costumes. I am such an amateur that most of my stuff turns out pretty shitty looking. I'm in a warehouse in downtown LA, and have room for lots of messy people.
