Hi there.. I posted this on another tribe with no response.. so I'll try here.. any tips on sewing on stretch vinyl? I made one thing where the seams turned out a bit puckery, which was OK for that .. but would love to know how to sew it without puckering.. also how to keep it from sticking to the machine on those occasions where you need the fabric vinyl side out.. mebbe baker's paper with a hole cut out for the feed dogs?
I used a ballpoint needle, which seemed to be fine...
Thanks!

Thu, March 15, 2007 - 10:59 AMDo you have a serger? I've never worked with stretchy vinyl but it should work.
If you have a regular machine, my mom always tells me to pull the fabric as you sew so you don't pop the seams later on.

Thu, March 15, 2007 - 12:10 PMWell, sewing tissue paper on with whatever you sew, then pulling it off after should keep the vinyl from sticking... only thing I can think of sewing any stretchy material is to use the zigzag setting so it stretches with the fabric... but I've never sewn stretch vinyl :) -

Re: sewing on stretch vinyl?
Fri, March 16, 2007 - 11:58 PMI just got a serger, & haven't tried it out yet.. I' sacrifice a bit o'the vinyl in my learning how to use the serger.
I've done the tissue paper route on other fabrics.. grr.. hate picking out all those little bits from the seams.. thanks for the thought, tho. my machine has a lightning bolt shaped stitch for knits, so I'll give that a try.. .. the vinyl sewing's gotten bumped down in priority.. I'll post my adventure once I get to it..
Thanks for the ideas!
